Burmese protest against arrest and torture by military junta in Myanmar
UNB, DHAKA
Around 100 Burmese nationals staying in Bangladesh staged a demonstration near the Myanmar Embassy yesterday protesting the military junta's "brutal killings" and arrests of monks, students and innocent people.
The demonstration coincided with international day of support for freedom in Burma.
Witnesses said the protestors carried placards and banners and shouted slogans against the military junta amidst tight police security.
They chanted slogans: "We Want Democracy", "No Need of Military Constitution" , "Stop Killings in Burma" and "Release Political Prisoners".
Scores of police were posted in and around the embassy area to maintain peace during the protest.
They staged protests for about 15 minutes from 11 am. No untoward incident happened.
The demonstration was organised under the banner of Rakhaing Sangha Union (RSU).
The demonstrators blamed the Burmese ruling Junta for repercussions for their ruthless tortures and killings.
They also condemned the killing of journalists who were covering the street protests and collecting news about demonstrations in Yangon.
The protesters also urged the Chinese government to stand by the oppressed Burmese changing their previous stand of propping up the ruling junta.
RSU president Uthiha submitted a copy of memorandum to the Myanmar Embassy.
Talking to the news agency, he said, "We are friends of Bangladesh. Please support us."
He said that they want peaceful resolution of the problems in Myanmar.
