Exile Burmese Monks demonstrate in Dhaka
Dhaka, Bangladesh: The monks from Bangladesh base Buddhist monasteries under the banner of Rakhine Sangha Union (RSU) staged a demonstration near Burmese Embassy on Saturday.
The demonstration was led by Sayradw U Ra Seinda from Harban Parahita monastery and the patron of Arakan National Council (ANC) and the ANC information secretary and president of RSU U Theinha.
In the demonstration, there was more than 50 exile Rakhine community and students reside in Dhaka and more than 20 monks from Bangladesh base Buddhist monasteries which led with the community of Thet, Marama and Bruwa.
The demonstrators blamed the ruling Burmese junta for repercussions for their ruthless tortures and killings, arrests of monks, students and innocent people in Burma.
The protesters carried placards and banners and chanted slogans against the military junta amid tight police security. Scores of police and security personals were posted in and around the embassy to maintain peace during the protest and only allowed 15 minute to demonstrate.
The demonstrators also condemned the killing of photo journalists from Japan who was covering the street protests and collecting news about demonstrations in Rangoon.
The protesters also urged the Chinese government to stand by the oppressed Burmese people changing their previous stand of propping up the ruling junta.
RSU President U Theinha submitted a memorandum to the Burmese Embassy.
The demonstration coincided with international day of support for freedom in Burma.
Global demonstrated against Burmese junta in cities across Asia yesterday detaining hundreds of Buddhist monks when troops turned their guns on pro-democracy last week.##
