Statement of All Burma Students’ League

We Pray to Soul of the Mahatama Gandhi to Save Burma

2nd October 2007.

We. the All Burma Students League, ABSL, strongly condemned Burmese military regime named State Peace and Development Council, SPDC, for its brutal crackdown on peaceful movement of Burmese people led by Buddhist monks, in which about hundreds people including several Buddhist monks were killed several hundreds people wounded in brutal crack down on peaceful demonstrations since Wednesday September 26, 2007. The protests began a month ago after a sudden raise in fuel prices and have become a mass movement against military repression and economic hardship. In addition to this brutal crackdown, the monasteries throughout the country were raided over night. Monks were beaten, arrested, drive-out from their monasteries and drag onto military truck and taken to unknown places. None know if they are still alive or dead.
We are also saddened with deep pain by this crackdown of SPDC regime which had never been happen in history of Burmese society, as faithful Buddhist Burmese held high esteem regard to the Monks and none can consider to harm or even none dare to show disrespected them up. They continuously kill successive generations of student and youth, but now they show their evil deed by slaughtering the Buddhist monks, which is blasphemy of Satanic Generals and it become national shame.
We fell disturb and hurt by the India’s inaction to prevent such tragedy mete out against Buddhist monks and people who practicing Gandhian way of nonviolent with compassion for peace and prosperity in the country, release of all the political prisoners including Aung San Suu Kyi and national reconciliation.
It is a tragedy that the SPDC could not heed the numerous suggestion of international community and the peoples of Burma to embrace reconciliation stance, through sustainable dialogue to end the decades long conflict. The regime in Burma call the State Peace and Development Council, SPDC clearly show its stubbornness to hang on power at any cost, would not only destabilize regional peace and integrity but also undermine human dignity. It is high time for international community particularly India to take punitive action and prevent human catastrophe in Burma.
We are deeply concern over the consequences of regime’s stubbornness may drag-down Burma into genocidal war like in Rwanda, as Sangha ( Monk Society ) issue a statement that said they are pledge to continue to fight and they are already to sacrifice, and call for people participation.
Enough is enough. It is time to differentiate between the black and white, Burma need friends who are indeed. It is high time now that the international community, India and China in particular, to condemn Junta’s heinous crime and urge SPDC regime to refrain from brutal and violent war to resort the crisis.
In the very occasion of the Mahatama Gandhi Birthday, we, the people of India and Burma together appeal to the Governments of India and China to take proactive role in the UN intervention to prevent repetition of 1988 tragedy in Burma.
